WHP's 1949 construction permit
This document from the FCC permitted
WHP to begin construction of a new transmitter site on a new frequency.
The site was built on Tower Road in Enola, PA
between 1949 and 1951. By moving from 1460 to 580 khz, WHP's coverage
improved without the need for additional power. The transition was
complete when the old transmitter in Swatara
Township signed off for the last time and the
new transmitter in Enola began broadcasting
on May 21, 1951 at 8:29 PM.
